Acupuncturist and Somatics Expert
Special interests: Muscular-skeletal issues, Acute and chronic pain, Somatics, Trauma healing
During over two decades of holistic healing practice, I have had the privilege to help thousands of people to feel more fully alive by assisting them to reconnect with their natural healing power. I am a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, in private practice since 2002. I received my acupuncture training at the second-ranked Oriental Medicine school in the nation, Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, California, graduating with the highest honors. In addition to completing a two-year clinical internship at the college clinic, I was chosen to participate in an externship at both the L.A. Free Clinic with a focus on fibromyalgia as well as the Daniel Freeman Hospital, treating withdrawal from chemical dependency.
I have treated a wide variety of conditions over the course of my career. Some of the concerns I most frequently address are anxiety and depression, PTSD, pain management and resolution, neurological disorders, autoimmune conditions, and digestive disorders. I also completed a three-year training program in Somatic Experiencing®, a trauma resolution modality, which I have practiced since 2017. I serve as an assistant to the SE faculty in training new practitioners. Mindfulness has been an important thread weaving through my life for over 30 years. I have logged several thousand hours on the meditation cushion, striving each day to remain a beginner. I am particularly interested and actively engaged in exploring the intersection between nervous system regulation and meditation.
For a short time after college, I worked in aerospace as a metallurgical engineer but soon learned that this was not to be my life path. Soon thereafter, I trained to become a yoga instructor and enrolled in acupuncture school. After founding L.A. Wellness in Los Angeles and serving as director there for two decades, I relocated to Louisville in 2022 for a slower pace of life and was fortunate enough to be invited to practice at the wonderful healing center that is Common Ground Wellness. I am a grateful father to my amazing daughter, and in addition to healing work, I love running, hiking, biking, camping, reading, practicing yoga, as well as playing guitar and piano, and songwriting.

Testimonials
I decided to pursue acupuncture treatment after years of experiencing chronic back pain. I explored other types of treatment, but had no positive results. Within just a few sessions with Joe Curcio, the back pain I had endured for almost twelve years had been completely alleviated. I continued working with Joe Curcio on other problem areas of my daily life such as nutrition and stress. I had exceptional results with everything from my digestion to my ability to cope with stress. He is a warm presence and a gifted acupuncturist.

To me, everything about Joe spells holistic. He is a wholesome person, he is honest, he extremely intelligent and dedicated, he is calm, kind and sincere. My first impression of Joe was "man, this is a peaceful guy with a great outlook on life, I want whatever he is taking/doing!" I have visited five other highly regarded and well reviewed acupuncture clinics in various parts of the country, and never before have I experienced such care in a programmed plan designed for my wellness. Joe is the first practitioner to give me a diagnosis sheet after my initial visit with a detailed plan of what he can do to help me with my issues.

I highly recommend, Joe Curcio's services as a healer. Joe fixed my tennis elbow with acupuncture. I mean cured. No surgery and no cortisone shots were needed. I have been seeing Joe for 6 years. Recently, his somatic therapy treatments have reduced my anxiety and reduced my blood pressure. Joe encouraged and helped train me to meditate and practice yin yoga. Joe has developed more into a medical life coach with his practical non pharmaceutical treatments. I am very grateful for Joe's healing powers.

Joe has made such a HUGE positive impact in my life. I cry anytime I have to give blood, yet I choose to have acupuncture every week and never think twice about having needles poked all over my body. I feel better all around...mentally, physically and emotionally! I have more energy, I have less anxiety and I feel happier. Joe is kind and I never feel judgement from him. He helps me and I am very thankful. I recommend him to all of my friends and family and actually started carrying his cards in my purse. He is a life changer!!
